Iowa State Is an Equal Opportunity Employer

چکیده
This study investigates the performance of Gale-Shapley matching in an evolutionary market context. Computational experimental findings are reported for an evolutionary match-and-play trade network game in which resource-constrained traders repeatedly choose and refuse trade partners in accordance with Gale-Shapley matching, participate in risky trades modelled as twoperson prisoner’s dilemma games, and evolve their trade behavior over time. Particular attention is focused on correlations between ex ante market structure and the formation of trade networks, and between trade network formation and the types of trade behavior and social welfare outcomes that these trade networks support.

Fads versus Fundamentals in Farmland Prices
This paper develops an approach to decompose farmland price time series into three components: permanent fundamental component, temporary fundamental component, and nonfundamental component. This decomposition is useful for studying the importance of fundamental versus nonfundamental factors in explaining farmland price behavior and the dynamic response of farmland price to shocks to each of th...
متن کاملHow Economists Can Get Alife
This paper presents a summary overview of the fast-developing field of “artificial life,” stressing aspects that seem especially relevant for the study of decentralized market economies. In particular, recent articial life work combining evolutionary game theory with preferential partner selection is described in some detail. This work is currently being applied to the endogenous formation and ...
متن کاملThe Viability of Methane Production by Anaerobic Digestion on Iowa Swine Farms
Energy production and use has long been a major policy concern in Iowa. The 1990 Comprehensive Energy Plan for Iowa established two statewide goals around which current energy policy is structured: • To meet all future demand for energy by increasing efficiency rather than supply • To increase the use of alternative energy resources from 2% of Iowa's total energy consumption to 5% by the year 2...

متن کاملDynamic Input Demand Functions and Resource Adjustment for U.S. Agriculture: State Evidence
The paper presents an econometric model of dynamic agricultural input demand functions that includes research based technical change and autoregressive disturbances and fits the model to data for a set of state aggregates pooled over 1950-82. The methodological approach is one of developing a theoretical foundation for a dynamic input demand system and accepting state aggregate behavior as appr...
